How it works

Ask and the assistant does the rest

You ask in plain English

The assistant picks the right News Dashboard report and pulls the numbers itself. No filters to set, nothing to export.

One question, several reports

Gain data insights into search visibility performance from multiple reports in one convenient response.

It stays in the chat

Ask for a brief, a pitch list, or a version for a non-SEO colleague, and it writes it from the data it just pulled.

Read-only by construction and only uses your API token: nothing here can create, change, or delete News Dashboard account data. Every question asked is deducted from your own API call budget.

Before

Four reports, three exports, one spreadsheet

  1. Open the Share of Voice report, set the cluster, note the leaderboard
  2. Open the visibility trend, set the same dates, export
  3. Open Missing Topics, filter to News Box, export
  4. Open the Action View, find the lost rankings
  5. Paste it all into a sheet and write the summary
With the MCP

One question

Where do we stand on the election cluster this week, what did we lose, and what should we write next? Summarize it for the editor in three bullets.

The assistant pulls all four reports, joins them, and writes the summary. The same answer, in the chat you already had open.

Example responses

Real answers from a demo account, lightly trimmed. Yours come from your own data.

YouWho is winning Share of Voice in Google SERPs on our election cluster this week, and where do we rank?
Assistant

On the 2026 midterm elections cluster over the last 7 days, five publishers lead:

#PublisherVisibilityvs 28-day avg
1nytimes.com11.45%+2.16
2cnn.com10.55%+3.41
3nbcnews.com8.83%+1.62
4npr.org5.60%+2.86
5politico.com4.46%+1.58
51trisolute (demo)0.17%−0.30

You rank 51st of 567 publishers with 83 rankings across 5 of the 17 tracked keywords. CNN has the strongest momentum against its own 28-day baseline.

YouWhich of our tracked election keywords now show a Google AI Overview, and where does it sit?
Assistant

2 of 18 tracked keywords in the cluster currently show an AI Overview:

  • trump election commission — AI Overview at position 1, no News Box, you do not rank
  • primary — AI Overview at position 2, no News Box, you do not rank

Both sit above the news results, so any headline there competes with the Overview for the click. Last crawled today at 19:20 UTC.

YouWhich topics are competitors ranking for that we have not covered at all?
Assistant

73 tracked keywords have no article from you in the last 24 hours. The ones with a News Box right now, and who holds it:

  • alcohol cancer deaths — News Box plus an AI Overview at position 1; cnn.com, usatoday.com and theguardian.com hold the box
  • andrew tate trafficking — News Box plus AI Overview; reuters.com, nypost.com, telegraph.co.uk
  • 2027 nfl draft — News Box; si.com and sports.yahoo.com lead

Want these as five pitches for the morning meeting?

Connect your client

Get started in the Trisolute News Dashboard

1. Create a News Dashboard API token with READ access. In the News Dashboard go to Settings > Admin > API, create a token, and choose read — not read + write. Keep it on your clipboard; you paste it once.
Use a read-only token, and make a new one just for this. This server can only read: every tool is restricted to an allow-list of read endpoints, so a read + write token grants it nothing extra and only puts a more powerful credential in one more place. A separate one means you can revoke it on its own without breaking anything else.
2. Know that questions spend your own News Dashboard API budget. Every answer is a real request against the API using your token, drawn from the same 50 calls per 10 minutes your account already has. Most questions cost one call, and you can ask for your remaining budget at any time.

Choose your AI assistant

Claude

claude.ai, and the Claude desktop and mobile apps. Custom connectors need a paid plan.
  1. Open Settings > Connectors.
  2. Click Add custom connector.
  3. Name it News Dashboard and paste this URL: https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp
  4. Click Add, then Connect. A sign-in page from this server opens.
  5. Paste your read-only API token and click Approve. The token stays on this server; Claude never receives it.
  6. In a new chat, check the connector is switched on in the tools menu, then ask a question.

ChatGPT

Set up at chatgpt.com in the browser. It takes about a minute.
Watch the whole setup in under a minute, or follow the steps below.
Set this up in the browser, not in the ChatGPT desktop app. The desktop app finishes signing in through a temporary port on your own machine and does not reliably hold it open, so the sign-in can end on a “127.0.0.1 refused to connect” page even when your token is fine. Once connected in the browser, the plugin is on your account and the desktop app can use it too.
  1. Open Settings > Plugins and click Browse directory, or go straight to chatgpt.com/plugins.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Name it, for example Trisolute News Dashboard MCP. Icon and description are optional.
  4. Leave Connection on Server URL — not Tunnel — and paste: https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp
  5. Leave Authentication on OAuth and the advanced OAuth settings alone; this server publishes everything ChatGPT needs.
  6. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin. That notice appears for every custom MCP server.
  7. Click Continue. On the sign-in page that opens, paste your read-only API token and click Approve. ChatGPT never receives the token.
  8. In a new chat, type @, pick the plugin, and ask your question.
No “Add custom MCP server” option? Turn on Developer mode. On a personal account it is under Settings > Security and login; on a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace an admin has to allow it first.
Sign-in never finishes? Delete the plugin and add it again rather than retrying. ChatGPT caches sign-in details per plugin, and a stale one replays an attempt that has already expired.

Gemini

Four routes, listed most usable first. Google now ships two command-line tools; both work with this server.

1. Antigravity CLI — Google's current CLI

  1. Open ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json, creating the config folder and the file if they do not exist.
  2. Add the server. Antigravity registers itself with this server automatically, so the entry is just the URL — no client id, no secret, no OAuth block:
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "newsDashboard": {
          "serverUrl": "https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
    The field must be serverUrl. Antigravity rejects the older httpUrl and url fields.
  3. Start agy, open Agent Settings (Cmd+, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows or Linux), go to Customizations, and click Authenticate next to newsDashboard. A sign-in page opens in your browser.
  4. Paste your read-only API token and click Approve. The browser then shows an authorization code: copy it, paste it back into the settings panel, and click Submit.
  5. Type /mcp in the prompt to see the server's status, then ask a question.

Written against Google's Antigravity CLI documentation. If a step differs on your machine, tell us and we will correct it.

2. Gemini CLI — still supported

  1. Open ~/.gemini/settings.json, creating it if it does not exist.
  2. Add the server. This server publishes its own OAuth details, so you need no client id or secret:
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "newsDashboard": {
          "httpUrl": "https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp",
          "oauth": { "enabled": true }
        }
      }
    }
    The field must be httpUrl. The similarly named url selects the older SSE transport, which this server does not speak.
  3. Start gemini and run /mcp auth newsDashboard. A sign-in page opens in your browser.
  4. Paste your read-only API token and click Approve.
  5. Run /mcp list to confirm the tools loaded, then ask a question.

Tokens are cached in ~/.gemini/mcp-oauth-tokens.json. If a session expires, run /mcp auth newsDashboard again.

3. The Gemini app — only with Spark access

Check this applies to you before trying. Custom MCP servers in the Gemini app need Gemini Spark and a personal Google account, and at the time of writing are United States only and English only. They also work only inside Spark tasks, not ordinary chats. If any of that does not apply, use the Gemini CLI above.
  1. Go to gemini.google.com/apps and scroll to the bottom, where a custom app link can be added.
  2. Paste this URL and complete the sign-in: https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp

4. Gemini Enterprise — an admin sets this up

Gemini Enterprise does not register itself. It needs a client id and secret up front, and its redirect URL is https://vertexaisearch.cloud.google.com/oauth-redirect. This server can issue that pair on request, so ask whoever runs it rather than trying to create one from the Gemini side.

Other clients

Cursor, Windsurf, and anything that speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth.
https://mcp-dev.newsdashboard.com/mcp
  1. Add it as a remote or HTTP MCP server, not a local command. There is nothing to install and nothing to run on your machine.
  2. Choose OAuth for authentication. Leave client id and secret blank: this server registers clients automatically and publishes its own OAuth metadata.
  3. When the sign-in page opens, paste your read-only API token and approve.

If your client asks for a transport, choose Streamable HTTP. The older SSE transport is not supported.

Questions

Before you connect

Do I need a developer to set this up?

No. You paste one URL into your assistant, choose OAuth, and paste your News Dashboard API token when the sign-in page asks for it. There is nothing to install and nothing to run on your machine.

Is it safe? What can it change in my account?

Nothing. The server is read-only by construction: every tool is restricted to an allow-list of read endpoints, so it cannot create, change or delete anything. Your token stays on this server and is never sent to the assistant, and you can revoke it at any time in Settings > Admin > API.

What does it cost?

Nothing extra. Every question spends one call from your own News Dashboard API budget, the same 50 calls per 10 minutes your account already has. Ask how many API calls do I have left at any time; that one is free.

Which assistants work?

Claude on the web, desktop and mobile; ChatGPT in the browser; the Gemini CLI; and any other client that speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP with OAuth, such as Cursor or Windsurf.

Whose data does it answer from?

Only your own account's. The server holds no credential of its own; every answer is drawn with the token you signed in with, and nobody else can see it.

I am not a Trisolute client yet. Can I try it?

The MCP needs a News Dashboard API token, which comes with an account. Start a free trial and you can connect the same day.

Put the News Dashboard inside your assistant.

One URL, your own token, read-only by construction. Works in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and any MCP client.
